Taking good news to every young person in Bath

The Accompanying project

Our one to one work in secondary schools has made it clear that some young people would benefit from support at an earlier age. The current mentoring support available, is primarily for the most part focused on the secondary school sector. Furthermore, our ongoing work with young people where they have been able to develop positive and meaningful relationships with youth workers and connected them with a local community group. E.g. youth club at a local church, has been shown to make a significant difference in the lives of the young people involved.

Bath YFC is currently running the Accompanying Project project pilot working with KS2 children in Oldfield Junior School and St. Michael's Junior School and KS3 in Culverhay Secondary School.  At the end of the project we will be compiling and publishing a report on the impact that the work has had on the children involved and offering recommendations for a way forward.

The vision: To see children and young people be all they can be.

The Aims

• To build positive and meaningful relationships with children and young people that make a difference
• To help children and young people connect with their local community
• To provide consistent support to the child through times of transition and challenge in childhood

The Outcomes

• To build the sense of self-worth of the child
• To build the confidence of the child
• To help create greater equality of opportunity for the child
• To help children have opportunities to socialise and build relationships with peers and the local community
• To support the child during the transition from primary to secondary school

• To build the resilience of the child

The three main ways of working will include, one to one work, group work with peers, e.g. a lunch or after school activity, and support through transition. Bath YFC is working with schools, local churches and parents to establish and run the pilot project.

In addtion to the schools we are working  in, we are also working with other youth workers in Bath who are running the Accompanying Project in Ralph Allen School and Weston All Saints Primary School.  If you would like to find out more about the project and whether Bath YFC could support children in your school with this work then please call the Bath YFC office.
