Currently, as you will be aware, Bath YFC and other youth workers go into schools, however we are merely scratching the surface. There are over 9,000 pupils in our twelve secondary schools which makes for a large mission field with many opportunities. Add to this the recently announced Children’s Plan, which will have a big impact on our schools and we believe that this is a key time for schools and that we as Christians should be ready for the mission opportunities.

The vision is that during 2008 Hope in Our Schools will raise the funds to employ a full-time worker to lead the mission to make a Christian difference in our schools. This vision was launched at the Hope 08 event in January and has made a great start with just over 20% of a salary raised already. James will be visiting churches during the year to make the appeal as we seek to reach the necessary total to make this a sustainable mission. We already work in our schools but this initiative will enable Bath YFC to do much more, working alongside Christian Unions, taking lessons and assemblies and developing our work with the extended services programme. Bath YFC has a history of schools work and we want to see that grow and develop to face the challenges and opportunities of mission in schools in 21st century Bath. To help facilitate the work and provide accountability we are setting up a schools work steering group, which currently includes former teacher, Julie Campbell, Diocesan Youth Officer Tony Cook and James our Director.

We launched the initiative in January and are asking whether you will join us in seeing the dream become a reality. We want to use this year to raise the funds so that we can build a legacy of mission in our schools, to take good news and bring transformation in the lives of young people. If this is going to happen it will take people from across the city supporting it so we are asking that 400 people commit to £5 per month, because if this is going to be sustainable it will need ongoing financial support. If you already support us but want to increase your giving by £5 per month then either fill out the form (link below) or notify your bank that you would like to increase your giving and then notify us. If you would like to join us on this exciting development of the mission of Bath YFC then please fill out the enclosed response form and send in to the office in the enclosed envelope.
