Motus Dance Academy is run by Sam Ludwell, our experienced dance teacher, who has taught dance with Bath YFC for over six years, and Chris Porter, a youth worker and break dance teacher who started work with us in September 2014. The Academy runs two sessions. On Thursday 4-6pm at Southdown Methodist Church Centre and on a Friday 4.00-6.00pm, at St. Barnabas’ Church Hall in Southdown, providing after schools sessions for young people to learn street, break and hip-hop dance. Sessions cost £3.

Time is made for the group to spend social time together most weeks and during the holidays. The Dance Academy offers opportunities for young people to engage with out Young Leadership Scheme allowing the more experienced dancers to take greater responsibility in teaching one another.

Every year the Academy plan, choreograph and perform for the Motus Dance Show, which raises funds to help keep the Academy going. Furthermore, during the year the group perform at events in the area and recently won an award for their performances!

Here is what some of the young people thought about this year’s show. When asked what she thought about the whole day, one young person said, “Can we do more than one dance show a year?”  Another one, “I thought the dance show was amazing.  The actual night was one of the most exhilarating nights I have experienced. It was so great to see so many people there supporting us and I would definitely do it again.”
