On Saturday 24th February we held our first gathering for Shaping Church to Disciple Young People. Nineteen of us gathered from St. Saviour’s, Bath Abbey, Widcombe Baptist Church, All Saints Weston, St. Stephen’s, St. Michael’s (Twerton) and St. Swithin’s at No.15 Great Pulteney, a local hotel who kindly hosted us for the day. The Ven Dr. Adrian Youings, the new Archdeacon of Bath, kicked the day off speaking from 1 Thessalonians chapter 1, about how we are called to be disciples who model discipleship to others. James Vaughton shared his research on discipleship, which has been carried out in partnership with Bath Deanery and those present got stuck into think about how what was presented applied in their own setting. You can read it here. We enjoyed a really good time together and those who attended said, “congratulations on the excellent day on Saturday” and “I found the course very interesting on Saturday; it was great to meet up with other people and hear your input. There was a lot of food for thought, and by the end of the day I had a couple of ideas I wanted to develop further.” We are now looking forward to gathering folk again for the first of our evening sessions on Monday 23rd February.
